Treadmill Desk

I thought I'd post about my latest health kick, my treadmill desk. After my 40th birthday last year, I got discouraged about losing weight because well, I didn't have much success. I exercised almost every day and only lost about 10 pounds! They say weight loss is 80% food and only 20% exercise and I believe it now, lol! But I'm not one to give up easily, so on to the treadmill desk.

To be fair though, I am very healthy! I had a full check up including a pelvic sonogram, a mammogram, and every blood test imaginable. Doctor said I am in great health! Thank God! Only one small problem - I'm obese. Technically obesity isn't a sickness but can lead to health problems in the future. My goal is to lose enough weight not to be considered obese.

So what's a treadmill desk?

Basically a desk attached to a treadmill. Here's a picture of mine. I originally had a different treadmill my husband got me for Mother's Day, but it broke. The company replaced it, and the desk I had before didn't fit the arms of the new treadmill. So, alas I had to buy a new desk. The last desk I had was just scrap wood I covered with an old dress of mine. You can actually see it on top of my new desk. (Black & white material with pink accents)

I like this metal desk much more because it has lots of room to store all my stuff. And I like this treadmill more because it has buttons on the arms for speed and incline, so I don't have to worry about not reaching the control board.

Since I'm just starting back walking, I'm doing about 3 miles a day at very slow speeds. If I'm doing a lot of typing maybe 1 mph -1.3 mph, but if I'm just surfing the internet or reading then 1.5 mph. So far so good! I hope to increase my walking to about 5 miles per day soon.

Here are some more pictures...the last one is my view from my desk when I look to the right. You can't really tell, but I can see the Caribbean ocean from my treadmill.

Tabata starting week 5

Our change of diet and exercise program is still going strong. I'm at 170.8 & Dan is at 205.0, so we are excited to continue seeing a drop in weight. I think we need to increase our exercise time because it keeps getting easier. Although with Tabata the main thing is to work as hard as you can in that short amount of time. I'll let you know what we decide for next week.

Tabata starting week 4

Tabata is getting easier for me. Thank God! This week we also played tennis for about 2 hours on Friday. My weight is now 171.4! My waist dropped an inch, too. Dan's at 206.6, so he's still dropping.

Tabata starting week 3

Wow! I increased from 4 minutes of Tabata to 6 minutes today! Feels great, but definitely tiring. My endurance is increasing, and my energy levels are still high. I dropped close to another pound, so I'm at 172.8! Can't wait until I'm in the 160s.

Tabata starting week 2

Well we did it! We finished week 1 and started week 2 today! We feel a lot better. My energy is through the roof! We are also on The Hacker's Diet, and since combining both we are starting to really see and feel a difference. We started The Hacker's Diet last month on March 22nd. Our goal is to lose 1 lb per week until conference. Dan started at 215.0 and today he's 208.1, so he's lost 7 lbs so far. I on the other hand am losing at a much slower pace. I started at 177.4 and today I'm at 173.2, so not as dramatic as Dan, but hey they say women lose slower than men. LOL! I honestly didn't see much of a lose until we started Tabata. Maybe because my metabolism is so slow, and the studies they've done on Tabata say it increases your metabolism for 36 hrs. I don't know, but I'm happy to finally be losing something!

Weigh In

Ok, I decided to become accountable about my weight! I finally decided to lose some weight. It came about in an usual way. I know people wanted me to lose weight, but I didn't want to. I just did not feel any motivation to do so. (Man I sound like a rebel!) In my head I knew all the right reasons for doing so, but to no avail. It's like my husband always preaches you have to engage your will to change and mine wasn't. LOL!

So anyway, one day I found some recordings for women I wanted to hear. Each one lasted about an hour, so I went walking as I listened to them. That took place the last week of January. The next week I went running with Marlini from church. That made me very sore, but I was glad I had gone walking the week before or I would not have made it! Then I was talking to the ladies in church about some walking video clips on the internet, Leslie Sansone American Heart Association, and we decided to start walking at church on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. So, the next week we started walking. I feel so good now! I guess the lesson is just start doing it even if you don't want to and the motivation will come later.

We took grandma Irene to the Maya Ruins where I walked all the way to the top with no problem! When we first got to Belize we took Pastor Cliff Williams and his wife to some other smaller ruins where I had a hard time making it to the top! So, just a few short weeks and my body started feeling much better. I actually want to play basketball again, but we need to find a basketball first. You wouldn't believe the prices here. $100 for a basketball!

We bought a scale yesterday at this shop called American Imports. The scale is The Biggest Loser by Taylor Body Fat Analyzer and Scale. I weighed myself at 10:25am 2/26/10 Friday. I want to record my weight, body fat, water, muscle, BMI, and BMR every week on Friday morning.
